TOMA Fundraising
My name is Krish Desai and I go to the Martial Arts Academy Elite TOMA in Randolph, NJ. Every year we do an annual Break-A-Thon event in which we raise money to give to a charity. In past years we raised money for St. Judes hospital, Randolph fire department, Goryeb's children's hospital, and helping people recover from hurricane Sandy. This year we are raising money for Jeremy Bassi Memorial Black Belt Scholarship Fund and hoping to collect at least 10,000 boards. If you would like to donate, each board is $5.00. You can pay either by cash or check (made out to TOMA Break-A-Thon, Inc) or click on Donate. Deadline to donate is before October 17th which is the date of the event.
About the scholarship fund:
This year, all donations will be used to fund the Jeremy Bassi Memorial Black Belt Scholarship Fund. Jeremy, who is the son of Elite TOMA Program Director Karin Bassi, passed away in a tragic accident in 2018. He began training at Elite TOMA in March 2003 and quickly rose to many leadership positions at our school. He was a member of the very first SWAT Team, later becoming captain of the team. Jeremy also helped hundreds of fellow TOMA students along on their path to Black Belt as a dedicated member of our instructor team. After earning his first and then second degree Black Belts, he spent nearly every day at TOMA, teaching classes, cleaning and maintaining the Do Jang and attending special events and demonstrations. After leaving for college in 2013, Jeremy often returned to TOMA and continued to share his passion for martial arts and the lessons he learned at TOMA with our student body. He often credited the discipline he developed at TOMA with helping him to not only receive a nearly full scholarship to the very competitive Stevens Institute of Technology but also winning a coveted teaching assistant position there during his Freshman year.
What will the scholarship fund be used for?
Grand Master Jo established this scholarship fund so that Jeremy's spirit could live on by honoring other students who share his passion for and love of the martial arts.
